Ok, I have a little bias toward this movie. I read comics
growing up and have a small collection of X-Men comics. If ever there
was a comic that could be made into a movie, it's the X-Men. Not
only have the X-Men been one of the premiere comics series of all
time, along with a great group of characters, but the the theme and
content of the X-Men couldn't have found a better time period to be
released as a movie. The very ideals of the X-Men are not far
from the head lines of today, genetic research and political
correctness.
X-Men avoids one of the major mistakes of comic book to movie
conversions. That's making the movie into a series of mind numb
action sequences. X-Men is at the forefront, a story, a building
of a concept and characters, and a battle of the mind. The movie
does have action in it and a touch of humor, but the story is the
primary vehicle and it stays true to the ideas of the comic
book.
X-Men is a comic book movie that I can finally be proud of. We
haven't had a good one since the early Superman movies.
