Starring: Natilie Portman (Luke Skywalker's Mother) I knew going in that this was going to be a chick flick and so I tried extra hard to be objective and fair. I knew that this was an adaptation of a book, which I had not read, that had been featured in Oprah's book club. Saying that... This movie is not very good. The story was choppy and just didn't feel realistic to me. I felt overwhelmed at the magnitude of events that should rarely occur in an average person's life. I mean, how many times in one person's life can a car get sweep away by a river? And for it to happen 7 times in one person's life just doesn't float (no pun intended). It seems that the writer would rather throw in lots of "wow" events instead of develop great people with rich characters to throw our hearts into. I was never able to get into the characters. The romantic interest in the movie were particularly void of chemistry and I never once felt that they were seriously drawn to each other. I would stir clear of this one unless you simply can't resist a chick flick. |
