I was gearing up to go see the Tour Championship in Houston
and was looking at the players that were coming to play and
the one player that I had not seen at the Tour Championship
in '97 that I was glad I was finally going to get to see was Payne
Stewart. Monday was the first practice day of the tournament
and it was on that day that the tournament and golf would
lose one of the best the game had to offer to a plane accident.
Payne was the man famous for wearing the knickers and hat.
He was a great competitor, personality and sportsman. Payne
won the US Open this year and after his win he was interviewed
and he just wanted to thank God for the life he had given him and
the faith that he lived by. Payne is playing greater courses
now
and the real loss is to his family and to all that grew to love him
play the game of golf. Thanks Payne. |
